Zen Savauge fa una specie di psychedelic dub avvolgendo l’ascoltatore con ritmi lenti, suoni riverberati e scratch da vinile. Di questo album, Inconnu, dice:

Inconnu, which stands for “unknown” in french, is conceptually based around the idea of finding and exploiting the unknown beauty in the chaos of nature. One major interpretive theme is that of the microscopic, macroscopic, and melancholic world in which we are connected to holistically. That idea was expressed through the use of random molecule-esque sounds bits layered underneath turbulent, looming dubbed-out melodies flowing about a motion of beat (which in my mind reflects the animation of life). The overall emotion of the tracks as a whole is that of a stark, beautiful, melancholy which is how i subjectively view the state of world.
These ideas and concepts as well as most all the track titles were derived from my reading the book “Chaos” written by author James Gleick.

Dancing in the S.N.O.W. with Tanks (danzando nella neve con carri armati) è un altro brano del nostro duo che accosta le vibrazioni delle campanine ortodosse a sonorità di tipo industriale.
Il titolo viene da un mio antico ricordo: quello di un monastero ortodosso con intorno un parco, la neve alta, il vento e il fruscio dei passi della gente che si avvia verso la chiesa mentre diverse campanine suonano ripetutamente creando un sottofondo continuo, ma fuori, subito al di là del parco, si muovono carri armati.
Alla fine, quando i carri hanno preso posizione e i soldati entrano nel parco, io e la mia interprete siamo gli unici rimasti fuori ed è calata una pace minacciosa, ma sensibile, tanto che anche i soldati avanzano lentamente, attenti a non fare rumore…
(ciò non toglie che immediatamente dopo sequestrano la mia macchina fotografica e riducono la pellicola a un groviglio di plastica accartocciata)

NB: con la banda ridotta degli schifosissimi altoparlantini del computer se ne sente metà (forse meno). Mancano i bassi e gli acuti estremi e sia le fasce continue che gli intermezzi rumoristici perdono completamente di profondità. Sorry.

Un primo assaggio del nostro duo di improvvisazione (quasi) totale che vi proponiamo così come è uscito in una sera di maggio.
Un brano basato su un ostinato di tre note su cui si muovono sonorità più o meno lontane che, nella mia mente, evocano suggestioni nordiche e laghi ghiacciati.

A first taste of our duo playing improvised music.
On a three notes riff, sounds comes from away and disappear like visions in the cold landscape of a frozen lake.
The piece is proposed as we improvised it some days ago. No further elaboration.

Lo Fi Lazer

Sempre più spesso le novità interessanti vengono dal nord.

Lo Fi Lazer is a duo for musical improvisation in a style some people like to call Noise World Electrojazz. The first release, Friday 13 Live, is a 100 percent live recording done with a good stereo mic in front of the acoustic sound system.

  • Tryggve Lund (no) usually plays:
    C Flute, disembodied FM radio, throat singing, carefully selected dumpster divided materials, guitar, effect processing, live mixing, real-time live looping.
  • Per Boysen (se) usually plays:
    Fretless Sustainiac C guitar, Alto Traverse (G) Flute, Tenor Saxophone, Akai EWI 4000s, effect processing, real-time live looping.

Lo Fi Lazer was founded in 2006 at the Norberg Festival for experimental electronic music, in Sweden, after a successful jam session at the festival’s Open Stage.

Rain is a series of conceptual CDs produced under the auspices of Webbed Hand Records. Each Rain is a CD-length ambient recording ideal for listening to while relaxing, working, or socializing. Typically the recordings in this series are minimalistic soundscapes, with motifs played out cyclically and repetitively, rather than progressively, in order to induce a relaxed state.

The Webbed Hand “Rain” series in now graced by a contribution from Djinnestan. Much like the shorter works, this 74-minute piece is subtle and enchanted. As if in a dream you find yourself strolling in a fairytale forest, dark and misty, peopled by the figments of childhood imaginings. This album is ideal for meditation, trancework, and quiet activities. It is recommended that you play it at low volume, as it is meant to be listened to peripherally, not directly.

Program notes:
The Hush is a 45-minute ambient soundscape of a darker nature than Emanate (previous release). This is an extended voyage, perhaps experienced from within the engine room of an intergalactic vessel. A throbbing, soporific bass is punctuated by echoing metallic sounds, and the auditory space is sometimes graced by mellow but alien melodies and harmonic drones. Other mysterious sounds make periodic visits, and the whole effect is a pleasant mix of slowly cycling highs and lows.

And when i was shown those pieces of neofolklore, i must admit i’ve hardly listened to such improvised music. Perfect blends of field recordings, traditional, organic acoustic instruments, speeches and a deep sense of expression shape this release to a styledefining melange of transforming impressions into soundscapes and moving emotionality.

He hate describing his music, but he say

As for the sound of my own work, it often employs sounds that change _very_ slowly over time. So there are a lot of drone-type elements, things which appear to repeat, and the like…but the real fact is that there are very slow permutations going on, usually at a rate slower than most listeners’ perceptions. I also like a very ‘immersive’ sound, something which surrounds and envelops the listener. At first, this might seem like I’m trying to do something ‘New Age’, but I don’t think the term applies at all because I often like to add ‘noisy’ elements to my works, or use an overall feel that’s darker than the average fluffy New Age sound.

Years and years ago, around the same time I was first learning piano as a small child, I also encountered the shortwave radio. It fascinated me…this box of strange sounds, pulsations, voices from other places phasing in and out. And then later in the 1960s, I heard the first stirrings of the Moog synthesizer…and others as well, as I attended a concert given by David Rosenboom while still in the second grade, with him performing his meditative style of electronics on a massive ARP 2500 rig. I suppose it was that formative experience that cemented what I was to try and do in my life.
