Sculture Sonore
Continuo’s weblog recupera una bella incisione Wergo del 1985, ormai fuori catalogo, dedicata alle sculture sonore.
I costruttori degli oggetti sonanti rappresentati nel disco appartengono tutti all’area austro-tedesca, selezionati dal critico Klaus Hinrich Stahmer. Vi si trovano compositori come Anestis Logothetis, di origini greco/bulgare, naturalizzato austriaco, già noto per le sue partiture grafiche degli anni ’70, o costruttori di strumenti come Hans-Karsten Raecke, fino a Herbert Försch-Tenge, con un bel brano generato suonando le proprie sculture.

Inspired by the tradition of open-form musical scores, I composed each of these four piano etudes as a collection of short musical fragments with links to connect them. In performance, the pianist must use those links to jump from fragment to fragment, creating her own unique version of the composition.
The pianist, though, should not have all the fun. So I also developed this web site, where you can create your own version of each etude, download it as an audio file or a printable score, and share it with others. In concert, pianists may make up their own version of each etude, or they may select a version created by a web visitor.
I wrote Piano Etudes for Jenny Lin; our collaboration was supported, in part, with a Special Award from the Yvar Mikhashoff Pianist/Composer Commissioning Project. Special thanks to Turbulence for hosting this web site and including it in their spotlight series and to the American Composers Forum’s Encore Program for supporting several live performances of this work. I developed the web site in collaboration with Akito Van Troyer.
ArtBabble
Apre le porte in modo ormai stabile ArtBabble, un sito creato dall’Indianapolis Museum of Art e destinato a ospitare video dedicati all’arte provenienti da varie istituzioni (MoMA, SFMOMA, PBS, the New Public Library, etc).
Il sito esisteva in forma sperimentale dal 24 Gennaio, ma ormai ha brillantemente superato il periodo di prova e si pone come un punto di riferimento per i video artistici o dedicati ad argomenti collegati (interviste, profili, etc…).
Video di tal fatta, attualmente, esistono già su internet, per es. in You Tube, ma il fine di ArtBabble è quello di renderli disponibili in forma meglio organizzata e più pulita. Inoltre, gran parte del materiale è in alta definizione.
Rothko
Vi segnalo questo notevole sito realizzato dalla Tate Modern per la mostra di Mark Rothko, con tanto di passeggiata virtuale che vi fa entrare e camminare per le stanze.
Insect Lab
Mike Libby costruisce insetti. Si definisce
a multi-disciplinary artist who makes highly detailed sculptures, models, collages and drawings. Through diverse materials and methodologies, I explore themes of science, nature, fantasy, history and autobiography; highlighting illogical and acute correspondences between the real and unreal. For the past 8 years, alongside my other body of work, I have enjoyed developing the work presented here as Insect Lab.

One day I found a dead intact beetle. I then located an old wristwatch, thinking of how the beetle also operated and looked like a little mechanical device and so decided to combine the two. After some time dissecting the beetle and outfitting it with watch parts and gears, I had a nice little sculpture.

Aaron Ristau
Aaron Ristau è uno scultore che lavora con detriti tecnologici di vari tipi. Nel suo sito dichiara:
Technology surrounds us. Products are obsolete within an ever decreasing amount of time, putting an increasing strain on our ability to deal with man made waste. Mans recyclable and manufactured surplus as a sculptors medium lends itself to an infinite variety of possibilities, which creates a whole new genre for sculptors’. By intricately integrating and redefining the purpose of reclaimed components, the completion of a sculpture is a triumph over obsolescence and the reward of creative vision.
Maschere
Essendo carnevale, mi pregio di suggerirvi una di queste maschere steampunk create da bob basset, che suppongo sia il tipo con occhiali che vedete nella prima immagine e che, nonostante il nome, è ucraino.
Particolare attenzione a questa temibile Cthulhu Mask di recente creazione, ma anche le altre sono bellissime e anche più originali. Sono così belle che le metto, impropriamente in “scultura”.
